Graeme’s first big adventure

Yesterday there were no services in any of the churches so I planned to do some walking to burn off some of the cakes that have been a major part of my diet since I arrived. Walk up to find that it was extremely wintry but nonetheless I braved the conditions to walk down to the local coop with various bits of recycling. Back in Dundee, I was spoiled by the fact everything was very close - work? 10 mins. St Mary’s? 12 mins. Costa/Tesco? 2 mins. Here? According to Google maps it’s about a 30 minute walk there but remembering the cakes I braved the weather and had a refreshing stroll in the snow.
In the afternoon, Gudny very kindly invited me along to the Helgeland Museum, Dønna for the Søndagskafé and then offered to take me on a wee tour. I didn’t quite grasp the timings and embarrassingly crashed in at the end of Marit’s talk on Ole Edvard Rølvåg but on the plus side I was there for coffee and cake.
I had a lovely chat with a local musician who is about to take part in a local Beatles tribute act and they’re going to play the whole of Abbey Road and Let it Be which I hope to pop along to.
Despite the dreadful weather, it was now rain rather than snow, Gudny took me and her dog on a wee sightseeing trip. We went down to one of the beaches at Sandstrak Sand which I was sure is stunning once all the flowers have started to bloom. It was a lovely quiet area but obviously very overcast and wet yesterday.
After that, we hopped in for the short drive to a climb up a hill near the Ravnskardsvatnet. it has to be said that despite the wooden walkway all the way it was still fairly treacherous with the snow lying on the trail. Even the dog was a tad nervous in places! Nonetheless we persevered (including fording a stream) and a great sense of accomplishment was had as we reached the top. Of course that was quickly nullified by the thought that I had to do this all in reverse and gravity would be only keen to give me an extra helping hand if I slipped!
A great time was had and I look forward to seeing the views in sunshine some point soon!

I'm really enjoying the updates, Graeme, please keep them coming! I am adventuring vicariously through you. In reality I suppose it doesn't get much less adventurous than sitting here in the kitchen of the house I grew up in!
Oh my! 😳 A sharp reminder that it’s only early spring! Here too it’s forecast to turn a bit wintry from tomorrow with even a threat of whitish stuff. Ooerrr.
